“New Group of Friends of Georgia” meeting in Vilnius

As the Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry informed a meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the countries forming “New Group of Friends of Georgia” will take place on 13-14 September in Vilnius. This is the first time when the meeting of “New Group of Friends of Georgia” is organized in Vilnius.
The meeting will be attended by Georgian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Czech Estonian, Polish, Romanian foreign ministers, the Bulgarian Vice-Minister Evgenia Koldanova, and EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby.
Sweden has also expressed its wish to join “New Group of Friends of Georgia”. Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt attends to come to the meeting as well.
In Vilnius “New Group of Friends of Georgia” will discuss the issues that are currently most important to Georgia – namely, issues of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.On 14 September Ukrainian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Volodymyr Khandogiy plans to join the ministerial discussion of “New Group of Friends of Georgia” on cooperation between the Baltic and the Black Sea states.
“New Group of Friends of Georgia” was established at the initiative of Georgia in February 2005. The first meeting of the group was arranged on 4 February 2005 in Tbilisi. Delegates met on 9 November 2005 in Bucharest, Romania, for the second time. On 9 November 2006 the third meeting of “New Group of Friends of Georgia” was arranged in Sofia.

Hi,
As one Lithuanian to another who speaks and writes English (correctly, I might add, knowing how to use articles, for example), I congratulate you on being a part of this precious minority that Lithuania -the government, and as a whole- just doesn’t appreciate and hasn’t the faintest idea how to exploit and emulate.
When Paksas flew around the world, the inscription in his passport staying that he was the former president of Lithuania was written in such broken English, that it would disgrace even Outer Mangolia.
I have never seen a brochure, an add, a menu, a translation of English in Lietuvos Rytas, nor even a translation of an official government document without mistakes in English grammar or usage.
Other than that, Lithuanians are very well educated, and intelligent, something your blog proves. So keep on blogging and maybe, given a little time there will be more bloggers like you.

Hi Inteta,
Congratulations on your English, it is indeed superb. But as an English teacher, I spooted a couple of typing errors – “staying ” and “Mangolia” – but typos are allowed in blogs.
I wish my written Lithuanian was as good as your English.
Don’t be hard on Mongolia, my friend lives there and there are many locals who speak and write English very well.
And you don’t need an exclamation market after Atgimimas. In correct written English, you don’t need it after saying thank you, though it is increasingly being used in email.
Well done for not spelling you with a capital Y. In my opinion, if you do that your English is top notch.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for pointing out the typos. I am afraid, this comment was intended to be more or less informal, hence the sloppiness.
Good English grammar is becoming a rare commodity- even announcers on the BBC and CNN occasionally display this symptom- prepositions seem to mystify some of them.
But language is suppose to be organic and ever-changing, so I suppose todays mistakes will become tomorrows good grammar (Something Lithuanian language commissars would do well to realize).

PS: Which Mongolia were you referring to, where they speak such good English- Inner or Outer?
