Lithuania invites Ukraine to join the N-plant project
Ukraine could join the project of building in Lithuania of a nuclear power plant, Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus told reporters after his visit to Ukraine on 14 August.
He said Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko showed immediate interest about possibilities for building the nuclear power plant.
“I gave a very simple answer: Lithuania is open to all competent and tenable partners who want to participate in the construction,” Adamkus said, adding that Kiev would not claim a stake in the future plant project.
Adamkus voiced the hope that participants in the project would not object to Ukraine’s joining it.
However, the Latvian PM Kalvitis voiced his reservations for the proposal. Kalvitis expressed his wish that Vilnius should talk to its partners first before inviting new partners to join the project.
