IKEA expressed interest in wood processing complex to be set up in Lithuania

IKEA by ScanpixAs BNS informed the Swedish IKEA is interested in an approximately EUR 202 mln wood processing and wood products park envisaged in Lithuania.

Mindaugas Silinskas from the magazine ‘Lietuvos Medienos Ir Baldu Pramones Zinios’ (Lithuania’s Wood and Furniture Industry News) stated that “IKEA has praised the idea to create a large-scale industrial complex in Lithuania. The support of this global concern is very important to us since it could be one of the key customers of the new complex and might contribute to the financing of the project.” Mr Silinskas  also noted: “We have a chance to get among the key suppliers of IKEA. Lithuania currently ranks the fifth among the largest furniture producers for that concern.”

The BNS informs that the new Lithuanian complex would include a medium density board plant, a sawmill, an insulation plant, three furniture and furniture parts plants, construction materials plants, a cogeneration power plant, other facilities and might be located in Svencionys or in Alytus.  The complex would cover the area of 50-60 hectares would be launched late in 2009 or early in 2010.
